Joyce Jenereaux

Detroit Media Partnership

Joyce Jenereaux is president of Detroit Media Partnership, the top executive of the company.  She has held that position since June 2011.  The company manages the business operations of the Detroit Free Press and The Detroit News, Michigan’s leading sources of news and information.

Jenereaux has played a critical role in transforming the company from its newspaper heritage into a provider of news and information on a variety of electronic platforms.  This has included building a new company culture that makes listening to customer’s needs – and acting quickly to meet those needs – a hallmark of its practices.

Under her leadership, the company has taken bold steps to reduce manufacturing and distribution costs — shifting those resources to the development of the digital products that represent its future.  It has also transformed its advertising sales operations to make its sales executives true multimedia experts.

These strategic changes are widely recognized as a model for how newspapers around the globe need to reassess their most fundamental practices to survive and thrive in a new information age.

Jenereaux, a Detroit native, started her career at Detroit Media Partnership in 1990, as a financial analyst, and progressed through various positions of increasing responsibility including financial reporting manager, assistant controller, controller, vice president of finance/controller, senior vice president of finance and executive vice president.  Prior to joining the company, she was a senior auditor at the public accounting firm of Deloitte & Touche, where she earned her CPA designation in 1988.

Jenereaux holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Eastern Michigan University, and attended the American Press Institute’s Executive Development Program.  She is a three-time winner of Gannett Co.’s President’s Ring award, for excellence in financial management.

She serves on the executive committee of Forgotten Harvest (a food rescue organization), as treasurer of Detroit Free Press Charities, a board member of Reading Works (an adult literacy organization), a board member for the Inforum Center for Leadership and on the advisory board of the Detroit Regional Chamber.

Jenereaux lives in Northville.  Her interests include yoga, running, reading and spending time with family. She has two adult children and one grandchild.
